Smart Meter Assets (SMA) is a leading UK Meter Asset provider ("MAP") with a portfolio of ~2m electricity and gas Smart Meters which are leased to UK energy suppliers under long-term contracts.
SMA was founded in 2014 and has played a major role in funding the deployment of Smart Meters in the UK in line with the Smart Metering Implementation Programme, a Government programme, which is a cornerstone of the drive to net zero.
In 2021, SMA were acquired by Arcus Infrastructure Partners and GLIL Infrastructure, who are active and long-term infrastructure investors. SMA remained under Arcus’s ownership until 2025, when KKR acquired the business. SMA complement KKR’s business strategy to support the UK’s Smart Meter implementation and wider infrastructure interests.
SMA is a party to the Smart Energy Code (SEC) and a member of the Community of Meter Asset Providers.
